Chris Thomas Hanger
October 24, 1947 - December 27, 2001 (pg. 2)

Chris was born in Fort Worth, Texas, the son of Willett and Margaret Hanger. Both parents are now deceased.

After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, Chris attended the South Texas College of Law in Houston. There he studied the theories of law formation and the role legal institutions play in shaping law. He was also introduced to various substantive bodies of law and to the skills and obligations of lawyering. After completed his Juris Doctorate, Chris was admitted to the Texas bar.

As an attorney, Chris served on the legal staffs of the Harris County District Attorney, the Texas Attorney General, and a number of other state agencies. During the term of Texas Governor Mark White, he served as Assistant General Counsel for the governor. He also had a private law practice.

In 1988, Chris joined the Jollyville Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter. He soon took a course so he could serve as an Emergency Medical Technician, Basic.

As many before him, Chris discovered that helping people during their most urgent time of need was more fulfilling than anything he had ever done. He was touching lives and making a difference, and that was all he had ever wanted to do.

While working full time as an attorney, and part time as an unpaid, volunteer EMT/Firefighter, he began studying to advance from EMT-Basic to EMT-Paramedic. He wanted to be able to do everything he could for his patients in the field.

Despite the rewards of his law practice, he soon realized that his heart was in the service of Emergency Medicine as a paramedic. Later, when he became certified as an EMT-P, he applied for and was accepted as a full-time paramedic with Williamson County EMS.

Suddenly, Chris no longer had the time or inclination to practice law.
