Every week we seem to end up with many more photographs of wild flowers than the week before. No surprise... Spring has Sprung. It is not always possible to supply captions with each photo taken, but as many as possible are captioned during the week. If you have questions about a particular photo, send me an e-mail or call me at 331-1111. Our next walk in the park is scheduled for Saturday, March 24. However, since there is some chance of rain that day, a walk will also be done on Friday, just in case. The developing twig
at left is a Greenbrier.
Below are a grouping of reddish blue flowers, found on the eastern slopes of the draw along the western edge of the park.
These are members of the Verbena Family (Verbenaceae), whose species are notably hard to identify precisely. They appear to be the Dakota Vervain, also known as the Prairie Verbena (Verbena bipinnatifida). We found a similar flower in the northeast sector of the park on February 24, but they do not appear to be identical. My guess is that they represent distinctly separate species.
