DERMONECROSIS

Dermonecrosis: Etymology: derm- + necrosis; relating to or causing necrosis of the skin.  "Necrosis"  derives from Late Latin, from the Greek nekrosis = nekroun, "to make dead, mortify", from nekros "dead body".

The term describes death of living tissue, as (a) death of a portion of animal tissue affected by loss of blood supply, corrosion, burning, a lesion produced by disease, or another kind of local injury, or (b) local or general death of plant tissue, caused by low temperatures, fungi, or other factors, and characterized, typically, by brown or black coloration.

Dermonecrosis can result from the action of virulent biological infections, from exposure to extreme environmental conditions (e.g., frostbite), and from chemical agents that break tissue structures down. The latter include, for example, the venom of recluse spiders.
