Spinybacked Orbweaver
(Gasteracantha cancriformis), League City, TX pg3
M.T.
was good enough to take a photo of the
underside of this spider, shooting through the hub of the web.
Unfortunately, under normal lighting the features of the ventral abdomen
are obscured by its dark background coloration. Even after running this
photo through an image enhancement program, not much improvement
resulted. One of these days I hope to have enough time to
sketch the external ventral anatomy, as well as the anatomy of the cephalothorax, of this spider. Neither shows well in most photographs I
and others have taken. If you have an opportunity to take photos of this
species, send them in. I will post remarkable ones, especially those in
excellent focus that show features of the cephalothorax and ventral
surfaces----FINIS----PAGE
