The captain joined Yvonne at the exit to greet each passenger as they left the aircraft.

The SkyWest terminal in Calgary  is a Spartan affair, bereft of the covered jetway corridors typical for most air carriers. But it was invigorating to step out into Canada's cold air.

We waved goodbye to Yvonne from the tarmac. I suspect she was, in a way, glad to see us go. More than likely, she would have preferred to spend this day as she usually does, out of the limelight, doing her work in relative obscurity. But people like Yvonne are special. Whether serving as a flight attendant, a paramedic or emergency room nurse, or even a government clerk, people like Yvonne tend to make the world a little brighter, a little sweeter, wherever they go. Thank heaven for such people! They are one in a million...

I'm glad we had an opportunity to chronicle, in a small way, the celebration of Yvonne's birthday and the captain's errant, yet possibly prophetic, announcement of her wedding.  Getting acquainted with her on this flight made our trip much more memorable...

We wish Yvonne, the captain and first officer, as well as all the folks at SkyWest Airlines a pleasant holiday season, and a fruitful new year in 2002. As for Yvonne's fiance, keep trying! Judging from the light turbulence we experienced on this flight, dad is speaking softly to his little girl, but he is still speaking...

As the flight crew prepared for landing at Calgary International Airport, the cabin lights were dimmed and Yvonne strapped herself into the jump-seat attached to the cockpit door.

The flight had been smooth as silk to this point, and the landing was superbly executed by the cockpit crew.

We were the last to deplane, so I was able to get a photo of The captain (far left), first officer (middle), and Yvonne standing at the exit door, without slowing the deplaning of other passengers in the process.

The captain's tie was decorated with festive "Happy Holiday" slogans, in keeping with the Christmas season.
