The Narrows, Going Down (pg.3)...

The photo on the left, below, shows the Narrows, in the direction of the Home-Stretch. From this angle you can see that the trail goes upward from this point, then starts back down. Evidently the topo map was right after all... Mount Meeker's summit is in the background, and the lighter, flat area in the center right of the photo is the Loft. I was some 400 ft. above the Loft, at 13,840 ft. when this photo was taken.  Mt. Meeker's summit (13,911 ft.) was about 70 ft. above my elevation at that point.

Turning back around, the last hurdle in the Narrows was straight ahead. The only way over this is, well, over it. When I got to the top of the boulder in the center of the photo, I was atop the Trough, looking down the whole length of the couloir into Glacier Gorge. The ridge separating the south slope from the west slope of Longs stretches away to the left... Note again the threatening clouds in the distance. Their appearance quickened my step somewhat...
