Turkey Peak, as seen via telephoto lens from the pavilion, is pictured on the right. It consists of boulders and is not a monolithic dome like Enchanted Rock. The rocks here are the oldest in the park.

Besides Enchanted Rock itself, another rock formation known as Turkey Peak provides excellent opportunities for rescue training. The map shown on the left has Enchanted Rock at its center, with Turkey Peak to its immediate southeast. For an enlarged version of this map, click on it.

We began the trek to the summit of Enchanted Rock. To our left a trail led up Echo Canyon, between Enchanted Rock and Little Rock. Not far up this trail is a boulder face-climb rated 5.8-5.10 (09-Stan and Lou). Further down the same trail is Lunch Rock, another boulder face-climb rated 5.5-5.11 (11- Lunch Rock).

Lunch Rock got its name from its use by early climbers as a spot to rest and eat lunch on after climbing some of the challenging routes on Enchanted Rock's west slope.
