A Walk in Fern Bluff Park (17 Mar. 2007) pg 3 It was St. Patrick's Day, and I wasn't wearing green. I'm surprised the leprechaun who lives in the house pictured below (I won't tell where it is--you'll have to find it yourself--but here's a clue: it's near the trail, and hard to miss) didn't poke his head out the door and scold me. I did put on a green shirt later in the day, after my wife pointed out my transgression... Some clever artist painted the door, installed a golden doorknob (into a woodborer exit hole), and placed a welcome mat at the base of this old snag. The holes at the base of the trunk are additional woodborer beetle exit holes.
As I was beginning the pre-walk survey earlier, I noticed a walker with two dogs pass by and head down the wilderness portion of the trail. Later, on the other end of the path, the dogs came running up to yap at me for invading their space. We had a nice chat while Mike, their owner, caught up with them. The small light colored pooch is Grover, a seven-year-old Shitzu. The larger dog with black patches is Elliot, a one-year-old Lhasa Apso.
