September 26, 2002: An outbreak of stinging Puss Caterpillars (Megalopyge opercularis) has been found in Central Texas. Photos of the larvae are posted here, along with notes about their biology and the nature of their sting.

September 2, 2002: A small brown snake, now identified as a Midland Brown Snake (Storeria dekayi wrightorum) was provided to Bugs In The News on September 2nd. It was caught in northwest Round Rock. 

August 10, 2002: A second trip to Enchanted Rock, to evaluate High Angle Rescue Training sites, was completed on Saturday, August 10. Click here for details.

August 1, 2002: Argiope aurantia, the black and yellow garden spider, was photographed in San Antonio on July 26, 2002, one year- to the day- after a related spider was photographed in Round Rock

July 20, 2002: Murphy's Law is now a feature of Bugs In The News. How Murphy's Law originated, and its evolution over the past 53 years, and a list of Jerry's favorite Murphy's Law variations, are provided on separate pages. A list of books on Murphy's Law is also provided to give you additional reading matter on this interesting topic. 

July 14, 2002: "Crazylegs" the Centipede is now on-line. A Giant Centipede was given to Bugs In The News by a friend who collected it near a home on the shore of a lake west of Temple, Texas. It has now been added to the Bugs In The News terrarium, where it and its interactions with other terrarium inhabitants will be studied.

June 20, 2002: Longs Peak Expedition 4 (August 1999) is now fully documented and on-line. This was Jerry's fourth attempt to reach the Longs Peak summit. He was successful this time, and photos of the 6-day adventure help tell the story. 

November 1-3. 2002: Members of the Leander Fire Department spent three days camped at Enchanted Rock, scouting rappelling and climbing routes for upcoming rescue training programs scheduled here in the next few months. Persistent rainfall prevented the firefighters from conducting rescue training on this visit. A follow-up trip to Enchanted Rock is planned for November 21-24.

September 20, 2002: The Midland Brown Snake found on 9-02 gave birth today, at 8:45 a.m., to 9 young.

August 21, 2002: September 11, 2002, is just around the corner, and Bugs In The News honors the innocent lives taken by Muslim fundamentalist terrorists one year ago by posting here the original words to several important documents that define the essence of the United States of America. These are posted at America. Become re-acquainted with the words that explain what, and why, the USA "is".

August 2, 2002: 1. A Desert Striped Whip Snake, captured in Austin several days ago, has been added to the Bugs In The News terrarium. 2. The Lined Snake that has been hiding under the bark in the same terrarium has now been photographed.

July 22, 2002: The Murphy's Antithesis Project is now underway on Bugs In The News. Each of the variants of Murphy's Law is analyzed to determine how to covert it into its antithetical form. Jerry doesn't know where this project will lead, but it has already produced some valuable insights into what he calls productive optimism. Click on the above link and  get involved. July 13, 2002: "Fang" the Great Plains Rat Snake, is now on-line. This small non-venomous snake was found in Temple, Texas, in April. Jerry was so impressed by its rambunctious personality that he named it "Fang." Since April it has resided in the Bugs In The News terrarium.

July 6, 2002: "Stubbs" the Eastern Rat Snake is Ready To Shed. He's nearly blind just before shedding, as his old skin is separating from the new skin underneath.
