Western Spotted Orbweaver & Arabesque Orbweaver
Compared
 The
image at far right shows the ventral abdomen of the arabesque orbweaver
on the previous page; the image at immed. right shows the ventral abdomen of a
western spotted orbweaver. Differences in perspective
make the upper border of the marking on the arabesque orbweaver appear
curved, while that of the western spotted orbweaver is a straight line;
perspective also makes the scape--an elongated, posteriorly-directed
process of the epigyna--obvious in the photo on the right, but obscured
in the photo on the left. The form of the scape is definitive for this
genus. The mark for the arabesque orbweaver is of a black vase
with a white border; that of the western spotted orbweaver is of a black
Byzantine cross on a white background ----FINIS----
